A self-admitted shoplifter in Portland is suing a grocery store after an employee stopped him mid-theft, setting up a case that underscores the growing tension between crime, order, and liability in one of America’s most leftist cities.

Joshua Merkel, 45, filed a $10,000 lawsuit against Albertsons and a store employee after attempting to steal a cart full of groceries in March 2024. Merkel openly admitted in court that he had no intention of paying for the items, telling jurors, “I understand I was committing a crime.”

The New York Post reports that the Southern California-based company Just Like Me allows users to join video calls with an AI-generated avatar of Jesus Christ. Like other religious AI tools emerging in the marketplace, the platform offers words of prayer and encouragement across multiple languages. The avatar remembers previous conversations, though its lip movements do not always synchronize perfectly with its speech.

A growing record of anti-Semitic rhetoric among Republican operatives highlights a concerning new trend in American politics. The most recent installments in this trend have surfaced in the 2026 U.S. Senate race in South Carolina. In that race, two of the six Republican challengers to incumbent Senator Lindsey Graham (R) have dismissed calls to fire campaign staffers who publicly shared anti-Semitic content on social media. Graham called on both campaigns to terminate the people responsible for offensive posts.

The Chicago Bulls have dumped 24-year-old guard Jaden Ivey after he made comments in support of God and against Pride Month.

Ivey’s stint with the Bulls is over after just four games, following a trade from the Detroit Pistons in early February.

The Bulls waived Ivey on Monday — which means his contract can be picked up by another team — after the guard criticized gay pride and the NBA on his Instagram page.

“The world can proclaim LGBTQ, they proclaim Pride Month, and the NBA, they proclaim it,” Ivey said from inside a vehicle.

So you might imagine the look on my face when this Fox News headline greeted me: “King Charles sparks backlash from UK Christians by not delivering an Easter message this year.” This is after taking the time to wish a “blessed and happy Ramadan” on social media in February. Apparently, maintaining an image is not exactly Charles’ forte’.
