Georgia\u2019s Supreme Court has reinstated the state\u2019s heartbeat law, a six-week limit on abortions in the state. The order was handed down six days after Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney ruled that abortions should be legal until viability, or 22 weeks gestation, which was state law before the LIFE Act became law in 2019.<\/p>\n
McBurney claimed the law violated Georgia\u2019s constitution. He had ruled against the law once before, but the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022 allowed it to take effect immediately.<\/p>\n
