Pope Francis has doubled down in his personal war on fossil fuels while condemning \u201cextreme practices\u201d such as fracking.<\/p>\n
It is time world leaders to \u201clisten to science and institute a rapid and equitable transition to end the era of fossil fuel,\u201d the pontiff urges in his\u00a0message<\/a>\u00a0for the Feast of Creation, to be celebrated on September 1.<\/p>\n It is \u201cabsurd to permit the continued exploration and expansion of fossil fuel infrastructures,\u201d he insists. \u201cLet us raise our voices to halt this injustice towards the poor and towards our children, who will bear the worst effects of climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe unrestrained burning of fossil fuels and the destruction of forests are pushing temperatures higher and leading to massive droughts,\u201d the pope declares, a product of \u201cconsumerist greed, fueled by selfish hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n Moreover, he states, \u201cpredatory industries are depleting and polluting our freshwater sources through extreme practices such as fracking for oil and gas extraction, unchecked mega-mining projects, and intensive animal farming.\u201d<\/p>\n As he has declared on other occasions, Francis insists that \u201cricher nations have contracted an \u2018ecological debt\u2019 that must be paid\u201d to poorer nations.<\/p>\n \u201cLet us heed our call to stand with the victims of environmental and climate injustice, and to put an end to the senseless war against creation,\u201d he exhorts.<\/p>\n Let us repent of our \u201cecological sins,\u201d he urges, that \u201charm the world of nature and our fellow men and women.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more at: www.breitbart.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Pope Francis has doubled down in his personal war on fossil fuels while condemning \u201cextreme practices\u201d such as fracking.
