A Los Angeles-based artist and writer, Jackie DesForges, has founded a new \u201cchurch\u201d for the express purpose of worshipping abortion.<\/p>\n
According to Insider, \u201c\u200b\u200bAt a renegade art and literary festival in Bombay Beach, California, Jackie DesForges knelt and prayed with passersby at the inaugural mass of her new church. Reading aloud from a sermon re-written using Supreme Court language, the group didn\u2019t merely celebrate \u2014 they worshipped abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n
Des Forges is calling her \u201cchurch\u201d the Church of Potential Life and has co-opted Catholic imagery, motifs, and terminology. She has an \u201caltar\u201d and refers to her service as a \u201cmass.\u201d Behind her altar are figures from Catholic iconography, including Our Lady of Guadalupe \u2014 which is particularly ironic, because she is considered to be the patroness of the unborn by faithful Catholics.<\/p>\n
DesForges was raised Catholic, but has apparently abandoned that faith. She said, \u201cI used to be so anti-everything Catholic and everything church; I had a lot of complicated feelings for a while without it, and now I\u2019m very much in the place where I can kind of take what I need from it and leave the rest behind.\u201d<\/p>\n
