North Korea has issued a document outlining its approach to nuclear warfare, warning it will not hesitate to use the bomb if it perceives threats to its senior leadership or \u201cimportant strategic targets,\u201d<\/em> state media has reported.<\/p>\n A statement<\/a> on the \u201cnuclear force policy of the Democratic People\u2019s Republic of Korea\u201d<\/em> was carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Friday, noting that while the government considers nuclear weapons a \u201clast resort,\u201d<\/em> it would deploy them to prevent \u201caggression that seriously threatens the security of the state and people.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The policy document went on to note that Pyongyang would launch a preemptive strike \u201cautomatically and immediately\u201d<\/em> if officials believe \u201cthe command and control system for the national nuclear force is in danger due to an attack by hostile forces.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n While the statement stressed that North Korea \u201cdoes not threaten or use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear countries,\u201d<\/em> it warned it would forcefully respond to aggression, or to nations threatening the DPRK by \u201ccolluding with other nuclear-armed states.\u201d<\/em> It named five scenarios under which the military might launch a nuclear strike, including when the country is threatened with weapons of mass destruction, when leaders or \u201cimportant strategic targets\u201d<\/em> come under attack, in the case of \u201can unavoidable operational necessity to prevent the expansion and prolongation of war,\u201d<\/em> or in response to any other \u201ccatastrophic crisis\u201d<\/em> that endangers the nation or its people.<\/p>\n https:\/\/www.rt.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" RT – September 9, 2022 North Korea has issued a document outlining its approach to nuclear warfare, warning it will not hesitate to use the bomb if it perceives threats to its senior leadership or \u201cimportant strategic targets,\u201d state media has reported.
