Shortly after a private meeting with President Donald Trump in Davos on Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky walked out onto the World Economic Forum stage and blasted European leaders for trying to “change” Trump instead of focusing on defending themselves from global threats such as Russia and China.
Zelensky said that Europe seems to be stuck in “Groundhog Day,” referring to the 1993 film featuring Bill Murray. He argued that European powers have been repeating the same actions “for weeks, months, and of course, for years,” adding, “Every forum like this one proves it.”

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that his administration is closely watching Iran for signs that it’s killing protesters, and has sent a “big flotilla” toward the region “just in case.”
The president said that he hopes the U.S. fleet is unnecessary. Trump talked about U.S. troop movements regarding Iran while on board Air Force One, with his orders suggesting that tensions between Washington and Tehran are still high amid Iran’s crackdown on anti-government protests.

At least 14 states have declared a state of emergency as they brace for snow, record cold, and potentially crippling ice from a winter storm that will stretch from New Mexico to Maine.
Around 172 million people are in the storm’s path this weekend, with the ice being the biggest threat. Up to an inch of ice is possible in some spots in the Southeast, which is enough to down trees and power lines, potentially knocking out power for days. Some cities, such as New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., could see up to a foot or more of snow, while Minneapolis and Chicago face extreme cold. A polar vortex is expected to bring in frigid Arctic air to around 35 states following the major storm.

The long-term simmering unrest in Iran reached full boil two weeks ago and Iran has been on fire ever since. Protesters took to the street marching against the Islamic regime and its failed economy, broken infrastructure, and violent suppression of critics. Immediately, police and military forces were dispatched to put down the demonstrations. Their heavy-handed tactics only blew oxygen on the flames, causing the protests to spread in scope and intensity. The police responded in kind and were very soon using live ammunition to suppress the activists. That’s when the bodies began to pile up. First, tens, then hundreds, then thousands.

Russia claims there will be “serious consequences” from NATO militarising Greenland, as it asserts both its own innocence in the matter and legitimate interest in the whole Arctic region.
Russia and China do not pose any threat to Greenland, and any interest shown in the region by Russia is a legitimate expression of it being the “largest Arctic power”, Moscow said on Thursday as it claimed Moscow and Beijing were being used as pretexts by NATO to militarise the high north. Russia considers the Arctic part of its sphere of influence and previously warned the U.S. it considers it part of its “strategic interests”.

Most Americans want more faith in the public square and want to have more say over what their children learn in the classroom, according to a new survey of attitudes toward religious liberty released Friday.
The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty released its annual Religious Freedom Index, documenting a rise in support for Americans to practice their faith in public and private. The index surveyed over 1,000 Americans and asked them for their opinions on a range of topics from curriculum opt-outs to sharing faith in public.
