Local cases of the infectious disease leptospirosis, which in New York City is largely associated with exposure to rat urine, are continuing to trend upward, the city’s health department warned in an advisory on Friday.
The city recorded 24 leptospirosis cases in 2023, its highest number in a single year, according to health officials. That’s compared to just three cases per year on average between 2001 and 2020. So far this year, six cases have been reported.

This year’s measles cases are over 17x higher than cases seen in the first quarters of 2000 to 2023.
In 2000, after a decadeslong public health battle and a Herculean vaccination program, the US won a coveted status: measles elimination. The designation means that the extremely infectious measles virus is no longer endemic in the US—defined as continuous transmission in the country over 12 or more months while in the presence of an effective disease monitoring system. The country went from having 3 to 4 million children fall ill with the severe infection each year, to tallying just dozens of mostly travel-linked cases.
But in an alarming turn, the country’s elimination status is now at risk. Measles cases in the first quarter of 2024 have increased more than 17-fold over the cases seen in the first quarters of 2000 to 2023. Measles vaccination rates among kindergarteners have slipped in that time, too, with vaccination coverage in the last three consecutive years below the 95 percent target that is needed to prevent sustained transmission. Outside the US, measles cases are exploding in the wake of pandemic-related disruptions to routine childhood vaccination programs. Altogether, the conditions are prime for measles to regain its foothold in the country—and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is clearly anxious.

President Joe Biden continued his turn against Israel this week, demanding that the country unilaterally agree to a ceasefire in exchange for nothing from Hamas.
Biden made the remarks during a Univision interview that aired Tuesday night when Enrique Acevedo gave him a loaded question attacking Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, asking him if Netanyahu “is more concerned about his political survival than he is in the national interest of his people.”
“Well, I will tell you, I think what he’s doing is a mistake,” Biden said of Netanyahu’s military campaign to eliminate Hamas after the Islamic terrorist group murdered 1,200 inside Israel on October 7.
“I don’t agree with his approach,” Biden said, later adding: “So, what I’m calling for is for the Israelis to just call for a ceasefire, allow for the next six, eight weeks total access to all food and medicine going into the country. I’ve spoken with everyone from the Saudis to the Jordanians to the Egyptians. They’re prepared to move in. They’re prepared to move this food in. And I think there’s no excuse to not provide for the medical and the food needs of those people. It should be done now.”
Biden’s remarks were an apparent reversal from his previous demands that conditioned a ceasefire on Hamas releasing hostages.
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said that the administration’s “widespread capitulation” was “appalling” and has convinced Hamas that they’ve “won.”
“Hamas rejects yet another ceasefire, even with Biden shamefully decoupling the issue from hostage releases — as Hamas effectively admits a lot of the hostages are dead,” responded Fox News contributor Guy Benson. “Enough. Stop pressuring Israel. Let them, and indeed encourage them to, finish Hamas.”

Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) joined MSNBC on Wednesday to tout President Joe Biden’s record on the economy — specifically pointing to inflation and saying that it was “down” — and claimed that “disinformation” was the reason so many Americans weren’t seeing that progress.
Clyburn was still at it when “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski — who agreed with Clyburn that “disinformation” was certainly a problem — broke in to point out the fact that inflation had risen more than expected in the last month.
“And so the inflation rates are down,” Clyburn began. “And people’s incomes are up. Unemployment is on the decrease. And although we see the prices at the stores costing more money, people are in fact earning greater incomes.”
“So what we’ve got to do is make sure that people see the policies of Biden administration, how they affect their everyday lives and get them to see in his policies that which is real, not what they may hear on social media,” Clyburn continued, arguing that “disinformation” on social media platforms was one of the main reasons people didn’t believe the Biden economy was working in their favor.
Brzezinski echoed Clyburn’s concerns about the impact of “disinformation,” but then shared a headline showing the most recent Consumer Price Index data — which revealed a greater-than-expected increase in the inflation rate for the month of March: 3.5%, the highest increase in 6 months.
“There’s also a lack of validation that these voters feel,” Brzezinski said. “And I’m going to bring in Andrew Ross Sorkin right now because we just got breaking news — the Consumer Price Index increased at a faster-than-expected pace last month, a signal that inflation remains stubbornly high.”

Facebook Reluctance to Ban Group Titled “Dating Site for 9-18 Year Olds”
Thursday evening, exhausted from a gruelling day at work, “S” finally returned home craving a moment of relaxation. Before unwinding for the night, she decided to glance through her recent messages. Among them, she stumbled upon an image of a freshly unveiled “woke” East Anglia train that had recently hit the tracks. Frustration bubbling up, she felt compelled to share this news. With a sigh, she opened up Facebook and hit the “post” button.
After sharing it with her friends and followers, she sees the grotesque pop-up advert suggesting she join a FB group, “Dating Site for 9-18 Year Olds.” She was shocked and appalled. She didn’t hesitate. She opens up Telegram, and forwards the screenshots to her daughter, Sydney Jones. Sydney is a citizen journalist, and creator behind “The Grey Area.”
At the bottom of this article, I’ve included a video from “S” which proves the insistence of FB in constantly promoting the group chat to her.
In a video call, Sydney shows me one of the admins of this group, Yosaf Muhammad, is the founder of another FB group called “Dating for 10 – 18 years old.”
Some of the messages uncovered by Urban Scoop shows adult men using this group in search of a young prepubescent child. For example, one account, Star Gee, said, “Am looking for a 12 year old boy.” Looking through his FB account, one of his previous profile pictures was of a pre-teen male wearing makeup, with what looks-to-be a makeshift erection.
Other messages, exposed by The Grey Area, show people like Joe Boden, “Looking for a gf that’s 13,” and message “looking for a gf the ages of 9 – 11” from Pedro Smith.
A cocky “Deepanshu Mittal” from India actually shared what he looked like, clarifying his age as “18+” claiming he was looking for a girlfriend.
In looking for evidence that children actually use this chat, we came across a young girl posting a picture of herself with the caption “Looking for friends in the US.”
After collecting an abundance of evidence, reports from Sydney and a humongous amount of people online, was swiftly submitted to FB with the hope of the groups being taken down – however, this isn’t how the internet works.
I remember back to the golden days of Trump, when I first started producing content under the pseudonym The Welsh Red Pill (this channel has since been banned). I remember seeing everyone kicking off on Twitter over this account they found which weirdly wasn’t accessible by typing it into the search bar – you had to physically post the username, and click the tag in order to access it. Doing this would bring you across an abundance of child pornography. Thousands of people reported this to the FBI and Twitter, but it was days before they did anything. Yet, if you posted a mildly “offensive” tweet or suggested something pro-Trump, you would land yourself in Twitter jail… permanently.

ACanadian reporter for one of the northern nation’s only conservative media outfits was arrested Sunday and carted away for doing his job faithfully on public property.
Rebel News reporter David Menzies, who local and federal officials appear keen to shut up and lock away, confirmed to Blaze News that he was charged for alleged breach of the peace and trespassing for daring to pose questions to anti-Israel protesters outside Toronto City Hall.
Menzies indicated that he will be suing the Toronto Police Service over this incident just as he is suing the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for a similarly rough arrest earlier this year.
Thousands of people gathered outside Toronto City Hall on Sunday for “6 Months in Hell,” an event centered around demands for the release of those remaining Israeli captives who have suffered at the hands of Islamic terrorists since Hamas waged its unprovoked Oct. 7 attacks on the Jewish nation.
Footage of the event outside Toronto City Hall shows a peaceful crowd waving Canadian and Israeli flags at Nathan Phillips Square while various speakers take the stage, including Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre.
Poilievre, the parliamentarian poised to steamroll Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the 2025 federal election, called on “friends of humanity — Jews, gentiles, people of all backgrounds, Canadians, all people of decency — to stand against the homicidal, genocidal death cult that is Hamas, a death cult that must be destroyed so that we can free the hostages and restore peace for all.”
Anti-Israel demonstrators flocked to the scene in an apparent effort to counter the anti-terrorist sentiment expressed by Poilievre and others.
Menzies told Blaze News he ventured over “as a journalist in the public square doing public service journalism … to find out why these people were there trying to crash this event.”
“Incredibly, there was a protest of a few dozen people — the pro-Hamas types — which was particularly gross because to me this was like crashing a funeral,” Menzies told Blaze News. “They’re spouting their rhetoric, which by the way includes calls for genocide like, ‘from the river to the sea,’ and ‘intifada.'”
Footage shows a number of the anti-Israel protesters crowding Menzies outside Toronto City Hall as he attempts to conduct impromptu interviews with his phone and microphone in hand. The mob presses the reporter up against a wall, shoving him with flag poles and sneaking in jabs. Other protesters can be seen attempting to block the view of Menzies’ cameraman with flags and placards.
Menzies indicated that police looked on as protesters not only assaulted him but illegally used amplifying devices to push their vitriol and drown out calls for the hostages’ releases.
A masked Toronto Police Service officer can finally be seen swooping in, grabbing Menzies, and separating him from the crowd.
Menzies tells the officer, “They can chant genocide in the street, and I can’t cover that? Obey your oath. Officer, obey your oath.”
The TPS officer can be seen grabbing Menzies’ wrist and tossing his camera onto the ground. Additional cops crew around as the officer handcuffs the reporter, then carts him away.
The arresting officer announces Menzies was “under arrest for refusing to leave [the] premises.”
“It’s a public place!” responds Menzies in an apparent state of disbelief. “This is literally the public square.”
The officer begins to explain his actions, but Menzies interrupts, noting, “They assaulted me and you did nothing.”
The police drag him over to a van, ostensibly banging Menzies’ head against the rear door before tossing him inside.

VILNIUS, Lithuania (AP) – Lithuanian leaders hailed a “historic event” as Germany on Monday began deploying troops in the Baltic country – a NATO member – marking the first time since World War II that German forces will be based outside the country on a long-term basis.
About two dozen soldiers arrived in Lithuania, laying the groundwork for a further 150 to join them later this year. The deployment is expected to be up to its full strength of 5,000 by the end of 2027.
“This is the first time that we have permanently stationed such a unit outside of Germany,” German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in Berlin at a farewell ceremony for the preliminary command of Germany´s Lithuanian brigade, according to German news agency dpa. Pistorius called it “an important day for the German army.”
The United States believes that an Iranian attack on Israel may be imminent and has instructed its diplomatic employees in Israel not to travel far from their homes in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Be’er Sheva in the south.
The warning came after days of threats by Iran to retaliate against Israel for an airstrike April 1 in Damascus, Syria, that killed two generals and five officers responsible for attacks on Israel via terrorist proxy armies in recent months.
Israel warned that if Iran launches an attack on Israel directly from Iranian territory, it will retaliate against Iran directly — not against Iran-backed Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, or militias in Iraq.
The Israeli military canceled leave for combat soldiers and called up reservists from air defense units several days ago. President Joe Biden also reiterated Wednesday that U.S. support for Israel was “ironclad,” in an attempt to deter Iran.

The United States said on Thursday it had restricted its employees in Israel and their family members from personal travel outside the greater Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Be’er Sheva areas amid Iran’s threats to retaliate against its regional adversary.
Iran has vowed revenge for the April 1 airstrike on its embassy compound in Damascus, ratcheting up tension in a region already strained by the Gaza war.
“Out of an abundance of caution, U.S. government employees and their family members are restricted from personal travel outside the greater Tel Aviv (including Herzliya, Netanya, and Even Yehuda), Jerusalem, and Be’er Sheva areas until further notice,” the US embassy said in a security alert on its website on Thursday. “U.S. government personnel are authorized to transit between these three areas for personal travel.”
Anchors on Israel’s Army Radio were somewhat puzzled by the U.S announcement, and asked whether it was informed by accurate intelligence. They noted that the U.S. had inadvertently confirmed where its local staff lives.
Other world powers, such as the United Kingdom, have urged Iran not to attack Israel, and to avoid a larger war.

Did you see what just happened in Damascus? In an absolutely stunning move, Israel took out the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. Needless to say, the Iranians are absolutely furious and they are promising a “harsh” response. The good news is that the war in the Middle East has not escalated to an apocalyptic level yet. But after what we witnessed on Monday, we are just one step away.
A building next to Iran’s embassy in Damascus has been destroyed in an airstrike, reportedly killing a senior commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps and five others – with state media saying Israel was behind the attack.
Pictures show the building in Syria’s capital razed to the ground, with huge plumes of smoke rising from the site following the explosion this afternoon and emergency workers rushing to the scene.
This particular building was apparently the residence of the Iranian ambassador to Syria.
The Syrian government says that the missiles that destroyed this building were fired from the Golan Heights…
The Syrian Ministry of Defence responded with a statement.
“This evening, the Israeli enemy launched an air aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting the Iranian consulate building in Damascus,” it said.
“Our air defences responded to the missiles and shot down some of them. The aggression led to the destruction of the entire building and the martyrdom and injury of everyone inside.
“Work is underway to recover the bodies of the martyrs, treat the wounded and remove debris.”
It appears that the IDF was targeting a gathering of very important regional leaders.

The head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Mohammad Reza Zahedi, was confirmed killed in the strike, alongside several other Iranian diplomats visiting the Syrian capital.
The IRGC-managed Fars News agency announced the commander’s death on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Another important Iranian military official named Haji Rahimi is also dead…
Haji Rahimi was named as the second commander killed in the attack on Iran’s consulate building in the Syrian capital, according to the statement shared by state news agency IRNA on Monday night.
Haji Rahimi was reportedly a coordinator for the Quds Force, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News.
This was a major victory for Israel, but the Iranians will inevitably respond.
