Iran Sentences Christian Converts to More Than 25 Years in Prison: Report

Five converts to Christianity have been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to a collective of more than 25 years in prison, according to a report from Iran International.

Hengaw, an organization reporting on human rights violations against Kurds in Iran, stated there has been no reason given for the charges against the five Christians.

Hamid Afzali was sentenced to 10 years behind bars, followed by Nasrollah Mousavi, Bijan Gholizadeh, and Iman Salehi, each of whom were sentenced to five years, and Zohrab Shahbazi, who received a nine-month jail sentence, The Jerusalem Post reported.

In his annual message for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, the pontiff urges people of faith to embrace “creation as an earthly paradise, mother earth, which is meant to be a place of joy and a promise of happiness for all.”

Harmony among men and women “should also be extended to creation,” he writes in the message released Thursday, “in a sense of responsibility for a humane and integral ecology, the path to salvation for our common home and for us who inhabit it.”

The group behind the move was called the Homeland Intelligence Experts Group, which has since been disbanded. In notes released from a September 2023 meeting, they discussed ways to collect information on Americans and “get into local communities in a non-threatening way.”

A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) advisory board suggested that supporters of former President Donald Trump – as well as those who served in the military or are religious – have a greater possibility of posing domestic terrorism risks, according to internal files obtained by America First Legal (AFL).

Named the “Homeland Intelligence Experts Group,” the now-disbanded board was created in September 2023 to provide DHS with “expert” analysis on subjects like terrorism and the trafficking of certain controlled substances like fentanyl.

The panel, according to the conservative legal nonprofit’s findings, included former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan, both of whom signed onto an October 2020 letter falsely dismissing Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop as Russian disinformation.

Israeli government spokesman David Mencer said Monday that Israel condemned the “absolutely shocking” violent protest against Jews by pro-Palestinian activists outside a synagogue in Los Angeles, California on Sunday.

Activists in Carrboro, North Carolina — near Chapel Hill — vandalized a tour bus promoting women’s sports advocates on their “Take Back Title IX” summer bus tour, scrawling profane and anti-woman messages all over the outside of the bus as well as pelting it with eggs.

The Independent Women’s Forum is promoting the tour, which features a number of prominent female athletes — among them former collegiate swimmers Riley Gaines and Paula Scanlan and tennis legend Martina Navratilova — and shared photos and video of the bus after it had been vandalized.

Researchers have discovered a battle scene carved into the stone walls of the Assyrian King Sennacherib’s palace commemorating his conquest of Lachish, a city to the south of Jerusalem. Using early aerial photographs of Lachish before modern development, archaeologist Stephen Compton matched the landscape as depicted on the palace walls in Mosul, Iraq, to features of the actual landscape located in Lachish, 42 miles south of Jerusalem. The research referenced aerial photos of the site in 1910 before it was built up.
