The weightier matters of the law are judgement, mercy and faith. This sermon looks at mercy which is “love in action”. Numerous scriptures show how God loves those who love Him and who keep His commandments. To be forgiven we must be merciful. Will God show His mercy to his faithful servants, and leave a “blessing” behind on the 24th day of the sixth month, which will be coming soon?

As one of “the weightier matters of the law,” faith is complete confidence in God, and without it we cannot please Him. It is a shield against all fiery darts, i.e., trials and temptations. It gives us power, and is a requirement for forgiveness of our sins. We are commanded to have faith and not to doubt.

We must continue to have strong faith and belief today. There are examples for us during Christ’s ministry of strong faith and belief for us today. The concept of “open door prayer” is discussed. Without faith it is impossible to please God. We must keep in mind that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

How can trials be a joy? Trials affect development of character leading to spiritual maturity. The true church will be protected and fed until spiritual maturity is reached. At this place and time we must go to God for wisdom of what to do in trials. This is “active” faith, and gaining wisdom is the “principle thing”!
