The Great Falling Away

The Great Falling Away

What do you think of someone who saved for something all his life and at the very last minute, when the object of his dream was within his grasp, turns away from it? What about someone who spends hundreds of pounds on driving lessons, yet refuses to take his driving test? What about a student who has studied his subject for years and, fully appraised with all details of his chosen subject, doesn’t go through the final exams?

Most importantly, what do you think of someone who hears and sacrifices for the truth of God for perhaps 50 years, and then carelessly gives up at the last minute, or in the end time? These people have turned away from God! Sometimes that turning away is dramatic; they leave the Church entirely or perhaps turn to mainstream religion.

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.”
(2 Thess. 2:3)
There is a more subtle way one can leave the truth of God, and that is to follow a man into one of the many churches of god derived from the Philadelphia era Worldwide Church of God.

“For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed. Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly.  For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still” (Isa. 9:16-17).

Many fell away from the truth of God rejecting their leader, Jesus Christ.  In some cases, they held onto these truths for up to 50 years, because of one man.  The problem was, they followed the man and not the authority behind the man. God is angry with these people (Psalm 7:11)!

When that man was taken away, they floundered. They forgot that the last warning to the Philadelphia era was to let “no man take your crown.”

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.” (2 Thess. 2:3)

This falling away is so great that God uses it as a sign!  God gives a sign to the world in Matthew 24:14 but this falling away from the truth of God is an even more urgent sign to God’s people.

“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” (Matt 24:14).

Now notice the most vitally important warning sign aimed directly at God’s Church:

“And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many” (Matt 24:4-5).

Over 300 Splinter Groups!

Most of God’s people in this end-time are going to be deceived as to where Jesus Christ is working and blindly follow a man.  Are you sure you don’t fall into this category? Are you sure that Jesus Christ is behind the human leader of your church?  Is New Truth being revealed through your church group?  Are you growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ?  If you are not sure that you are in the right church – you probably are not!

There are over 300 different churches and groups that have split from the Worldwide Church of God.  Ask yourself: Could they all be God’s Churches? There are over 300 different churches and groups that have split from the Worldwide Church of God.  Ask yourself: Could they all be God’s Churches? You know the answer (Matt. 12:25; 1 Cor. 1:10)! Are you following a man or Jesus Christ?

2 Thessalonians 2:6-7 tells us of someone that “withholds” and someone that “lets”.  These two words have the same Greek origin and mean something that restrains or holds back.

“And now you know what witholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way” (2 Thess. 2:6-7).

God’s Holy Spirit is what “witholdeth” or restrains.  He who “letteth” or restrains is personified, indicating it is a man who restrains.  God’s Spirit is clearly behind it all but in verse 7 we see a man being used by God. The man who restrains the mystery of iniquity or the Synagogue of Satan is to be taken out of the way.  Although Christ is the main power here, He is not the One taken out of the way!

Herbert W. Armstrong was the man who restrained the liberal forces, especially in the 70’s and up to the time he was taken out of the way by his death on January 16th 1986. Those who followed Mr. Armstrong – the man – and not Mr. Armstrong as led by Jesus Christ, floundered!

After Mr. Armstrong died we saw a great falling away from God.  This was the test!  God let the mystery of iniquity be revealed.  God gives us free moral agency, but after this test God knows who obeys and follows Him, and who does not!

Unfortunately, many failed this test, not just a few! This represents a great falling away from the Truth of God by His own baptized people.

“And them that are turned back from the Lord; and those that have not sought the Lord, nor enquired for him. Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord God; for the day of Lord is at hand; for the Lord hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests”  (Zeph. 1:6-7).

We are now in the prophesied Day of the Lord and God is saying to His errant people to be silent and listen to Him as He speaks through His one and only true Church today.  The Day of the Lord’s wrath, the final one year period of punishment before the Kingdom of God is set up on earth, is near. (Please request our free booklet entitled, “The Day of the Lord” or download it from our website).

“The great day of the Lord is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the Lord: the mighty man shall cry bitterly” Zeph. 1:14

You need to prove that “your” church is in fact the one being led by Jesus Christ.Time is short, you don’t have much time to act.  You need to prove that “your” church is in fact the one being led by Jesus Christ.  There is only one True Church of God which is growing in grace and knowledge and is set apart by truth (John 17:17).  The Church of God’s Faithful is delivering a message to those who are turning away or have fallen away from the truth and faith once delivered.

If you belong to one of the 300 or more splinter groups, ask your minister what makes your church the one True Church of God.  If he can’t answer, you have your answer.  Many of God’s people are asleep; some are not even bothered with New Truth when it’s presented to them.  Make sure you are not a part of the great falling away! Be absolutely certain that Jesus Christ is the Head of “your” church.

If you are not entirely sure, a representative of the Church of God’s Faithful is on hand to answer your questions.

We are living in very dangerous and deceptive times and it should be absolutely clear that the great falling away from truth has occurred. Not one of God’s baptized members need be deceived if they continue to seek the truth and pursue it to where Christ is now working.

“Let no man deceive you by any means… because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth” (2 Thess. 2:3, 13).

You owe it to yourself, and God’s plan, to pray to be worthy to help to usher in with God’s True Church the soon coming return of Jesus Christ.

Extracts From CGF Booklet: The Apostasy by Robert Ardis

Have you even considered the possibility that the falling away from truth has already happened?Have you heeded the urgent warnings of the Word of God—or have you been deceived by men—even trusted ministers—about the falling away from Truth? Have you even considered the possibility that the falling away from truth has already happened? (Pg. 4).

We teach that the prophesied falling away from truth began immediately after the death of Herbert Armstrong, with the teachings of his hand-appointed successor, Joseph W. Tkach. Due to the falling away from Truth, the WCG today is unrecognizable as the faithful Church we loved over 20 years ago. The major doctrines of the WCG, which were plain truth direct from the Word of God, had been revealed by Christ to His servant, the end-time Elijah. But at his death, that wonderful Truth began to be changed… Today the WCG is just another “protestant-appearing” church with an estimated membership of 20,000 and its headquarters in Glendora, CA. Most of its members keep Sunday instead of the Sabbath, and many keep the pagan holidays instead of God’s Holy Days! And they teach the closed trinity rather than the Family of God. (Pgs. 4-5).

If that is not a great falling away, please explain to me what it is! When these sly changes began to occur, Christ raised up Gerald Flurry, a lowly preaching elder in the WCG, to lead the last era of the Church—Laodicea. Mr. Flurry was used by Christ to issue a stern warning to the membership of the WCG that II Thessalonians 2 was being fulfilled right before our amazed eyes. He remembered Christ’s words: “Let no man deceive you.” It was plain to those who had spiritual eyes to see that the Church was falling away from truth. Have you awakened to this fact yet? Mr. Flurry began crying aloud through the pages of his book, Malachi’s Message to the Church of God Today, first mailed out on the fourth anniversary of Mr. Armstrong’s death. Gerald Flurry presented the revealed understanding of II Thessalonians 2:6-7:

"And now ye know that which restraineth [the man of sin], to the end that he may be revealed in his own season. For the mystery of lawlessness doth already work: only there is one that restraineth now [Herbert W. Armstrong], until he be taken out of the way [by his death]." (Pg. 5).

The “man of sin” has come and gone after causing the falling away from truth of God’s people.Revelation 13 is a different subject altogether from II Thessalonians 2. The coming false prophet is a completely different character than the “man of sin”. The “man of sin” has come and gone after causing the falling away from truth of God’s people. (Pg. 16).

The splits and splinters—the “churches of god”—who came out of the corrupted WCG, have also fallen away… LCG ministers [and others] have fallen away into spiritual sleep, failing to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Christ. They have failed to grow in understanding of the Word of God in these urgent times. They are fast asleep—deluded—in a 1986 time mode, oblivious to the fantastic prophecies occurring in the past twenty-two years. (Pg. 16).

The truth contained in II Thessalonians 2 could not be understood in Mr. Armstrong’s day. To think that the Worldwide Church of God would be deluded into becoming another church of the world was incomprehensible to God’s apostle—although in his very latter years he thundered out that about 95% of the Church just “didn’t get it”! And that is still the case today—only worse. The false prophet of Revelation 13 will not sit in the “Temple of God”. “…he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain…” (Dan. 11:45). The super-dictator called the “beast” along with the “pope” will construct a temporary structure in Jerusalem—and deceive the world (those whose names are not written in the Lamb’s Book of Life), with mighty false miracles (Rev. 13: 7-8). The world will not fall away from truth—they have no truth to fall away from. (Pg. 16).
